Hello, I’m Jon.
I am exactly the person you’re looking for to help extend the reach and amplify the impact of Commplicated as your Founder’s Associate.
I’ve had the privilege of working with some excellent organisations at the cutting edge of science and public engagement. Below are some of my favourite projects. I hope they give a flavour of my ability to learn quickly, adapt, and thrive at where science, technology, and communications meet.

I started my career at the Royal Institution, where (among other things), I convinced astronaut Tim Peake’s school in Chichester, a local pitch-marking paint company, and the folks at Nasa to put a 50-foot-high message to Britain’s first ISS astronaut on the official Earth Observation shot list.
When I was at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, I would regularly write press releases, profiles, news stories, and op-eds. My favourite piece was a tribute to a leader in the field of quantum information, who sadly died at the age of 43.

More recently, I hijacked the need for people to feel superior on Twitter to get some engagement for a pet peeve of entomologists — when news stories use the wrong picture. We then turned it into a blog post, which, because of its SEO, is consistently the top-performing blog on the Sanger Institute website.
Now I manage communications for the Isaac Newton Institute, part of the University of Cambridge. In only 6 months, I’ve redesigned the newsletter, turned around the social media channels, and brought rigour to the way we track what we do and understand our audiences. I’ve also re-invigorated the podcast by creating a sponsorship deal that funds using an external editor, creating higher-quality content and building relationships with a future potential donor.

Throughout all of this, I’ve maintained a steady stream of freelance script-writing and presenting. I’ve written scripts that racked up millions of views on comsic inflation, stradivari violins, cancer, and Bismuth.
I’ve tried to keep the examples here concise, but if you click around my website, you can find many more examples of my work.
As you’ll see, I learn fast and have a knack for telling stories that make people excited about topics that they didn’t know they cared about.
I look forward to hearing from you:
